First Visit to Petco Park

Petco Park is a $500 million ballpark that has been home to the San Diego Padres since 2004. Situated in the heart of downtown, Petco Park is one of the premier attractions throughout San Diego. PadresSeatingChart.com has detailed information on each of the seating areas in Petco Park. Continue below for additional tips on enjoying your first visit to Petco Park.

Watch Batting Practice
If you want to watch your favorite Padres hitters take batting practice, be sure to arrive early at Petco Park. For games that are held between Monday and Thursday, the gates open 1.5 hours before game time. For games that are held during the rest of the week, the gate opens up 2 hours before game time. Since the home team traditionally takes batting practice first, fans will have to get inside the park as soon as the gates open to watch the Padres on the field during pre-game.

Visit the Beach
If you arrive early to Petco Park, leave time to head to the “Beach”, a small area with sand and open space. Many fans wait there to try to catch one of the many long balls that are hit during batting practice. After batting practice is over, you will be required to head to head to your designated seats unless you have bleacher tickets that will allow you to stay at the Beach until the end of the ballgame.

Look at the Brick Plazas
The Brick Plazas are walls full of bricks engraved with names and messages of past Padres supporters. Although fans are no longer allowed to buy bricks, all of the current bricks are opne for public viewing. Nearly 14,000 bricks are placed onto the walls near Palm Court Plaza and Tony Gwynn Plaza.

Play Baseball
Petco Park has a popular family entertainment spot called the Padres Power Alley. The Power Alley contains batting cages and fast pitch games for both adults and children. An interactive batting cage allows visitors to face virtual major league pitchers. The area also has a large model of the USS Midway CV-41, a navy warship, along with tribute items that pay homage to the country’s military heroes.

Padres Team Store
The Padres Team Store, located alongside section 126 on the ground level is the best place to shop for an authentic collection of Padres related souvenirs. The store even has a view of the playing field letting you keep an eye on the game while you shop.
